Day 1 Tomorrow

I have a classroom this year! All last week it was 61° amd 75% humidity. In the room. The clock measures that as well. Hello, parka. An appropriate physical climate for teaching British literature, perhaps?

Oh, and love the felt on the boards? The lady at the fabric store asked me what I was going to do with it and rather than asking why not just use paper like normal people do, she said, "But that's a cold-weather fabric!" Um. I didn't say I was going to wear it. And then I started to laugh. It is cold-weather in my room. All the time.

My room. Without wheels. That doesn't need to be pushed through the halls between classes.

Still a little lean on the decorations, but it's clean and there's only one hole in the floor.
And it's mine. And ready for tomorrow.

I think it's hilarious that in Texas you might ever need to consider cold weather fabric. You think it will insulate the walls? :)

Have a great first day!

One more thing: seeing a high school classroom makes me cringe and shudder. I am so thankful I don't have to go back there (as a student). Poor students...at least they'll have a great teacher! :)

Nice classroom! Love it much more than a cart! Will you be passing out mittens as each student enters?

Oh good. Cold, so they can complain endlessly and moan and groan about their misery. I am cackling way up here in North Texas. I love seeing your room and knowing somewhere out there someone else loves them us much as I do.

Kel: I wish it would insulate them! Although, maybe I should just use some to cover the vent.

DMD: Sadly, it's the very dumb half. It's a really fancy-looking regular whiteboard. The point of it is lost on me.

Zolafan: Thanks!

Alli: Thanks! I hope your official first day will be as good as mine. =)

Loni: Many thanks! It's nice to think I might be a positive force in their lives.

Shoeaddict: Thanks! And having a room is so wonderful! It's so much easier to stay organized when I don't have to race into the halls and fight the crowds.

Mary: SO much better than a cart! And overall, this school has a high enough SES that they can buy their own dang mittens! Seriously, I did tell them to just bring a sweater.

Becca: It's also good to know that there are others who love these goofy kids. And they're going to whine about the cold, but when they're in the room it gets warmer, so they serve some purpose. ;)

oh, hey, meant to jump back over here last night after I noticed in the second pic what appears to be a big green "S" flag on one of your boards. Whaddya trying to do, pollute those young, impressionable minds? :)

Wow, those photos bring back chilling memories. Is there a law that requires that a flag be hung in each classroom?

Hey Kate - hope your year is starting well. I'll look forward to seeing your room again when you really get going with things.

I still have four days of freedom before classes begin here to find my way around northwest Beijing. Thanks for the comment on my site! Keep em coming :)

Off to discover food.
